Creating partnerships between schools and businesses
SEED is a nonprofit agency mentoring young adults with a job-coach for individual internship programs for youth with learning differences in the greater Central Massachusetts area. The program will form partnerships with local high schools, community and local businesses.
Youth are matched to internships with a job-coach who is trained to focus on positive reinforcement, building self-determination and achievement of goals by engaging in a series of work experiences within the community.
- Commitment: SEED wants to inspire strong interpersonal skills, develop pro-social friendships, and instill a sense of purpose in the future.
- Responsibility: The focus of SEED is to empower youth in establishing goals and commitments.
- Possibility: SEED wants to expand the perspective of young adults with learning differences to make them aware of life’s possibilities.
- Support: An individual is dramatically influenced by their support system. SEED wants to surround young people in a caring, inclusive living environment.
SEED offers youth with learning differences an opportunity to work with a caring job-coach to improve their ability to develop job readiness, self-determination and positive attitude toward their future. The long-term goal of SEED is to empower youth with learning differences to be a part of their community in a meaningful way.
